As the name suggests, the purpose of Lache Pas is to not let go, specifically of the oral traditions and historical landscapes of the past. Bringing together the efforts of historians, geographers, and community members, we can effectively create (or recreate) the cultural landscapes of the past by mapping old photos, local legends, and recorded interviews. Although we aren’t able to physically protect all of this history, we can use technology to collect, preserve, and recreate these cultural landscapes digitally for future generations to learn from and pass on. Lache Pas is an innovative online platform that will collect and document the culture and traditions of south Louisiana communities that are at risk of being lost due to coastal erosion. It will serve as a repository for the stories and knowledge of previous generations, with the goal of creating a digital representation of the physical and cultural landscapes for future generations.
